Materials
Pictures or flashcards of animals in the song.
Instructions
1 Let the children see, hold up or be the first to touch pictures of the animals as they
sing them and encourage them to sing the names of the animals which are omitted
on the recording. The children make animal noises (and mime the animals if
possible) before singing each line of the song (as on the recording).
2 The children then take turns to make an animal sound or mime an animal (or both).
The other children sing the song using, You’re a… The children cannot mime animals
which have already been used – if they do, they are out. The song continues until
there is only one child who is still not out.
Follow up
You can introduce new animals through mime. After the children know what the animal
is, but don’t know how to say it in English, you can help them discover the word. The
children then immediately sing, You’re a…
