Dear Pittsburgh,
Our children may be aware that on September 24 – 25, 2009 Pittsburgh sets foot on a very large
world stage as it hosts the 2009 International G-20 Economic Summit. They may wonder about
the meaning of this gathering of world leaders in their city. The City of Pittsburgh would like
to support our children’s understanding of this signiicant event by presenting the 2009 Inter-
national G-20 Children’s Flag Project. The objective is to enlarge their knowledge of our world
neighbors. “Because…,” in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, “…we can never again live apart,
must learn somehow to live with each other in peace.”
The city has chosen the symbol of the lag to highlight the project. The lag is a ive thousand
year old symbol of country, culture, nationality, struggle, freedom and aspiration. The project
represents the lags of the twenty participating countries in the G-20 Economic Summit. The
project format includes the lag of each country, color chart, information, questions, and an es-
say segment. Find out how you can be a part of history making.
We welcome the historic convergence of world leaders to our city while celebrating Pittsburgh’s
own diverse community as the world truly exists within our boundaries. Please join in this lag
project which is a small step in getting to know the neighbors.
