Nowadays life has become a rat race. People are becoming more and more tired
1 ÈÈ.. their duties, responsibilities and stressful jobs. No wonder then, that all the pressure
we experience in our personal and professional life influences our physical and mental
health. This results 2 ÈÈ. various addictions that are developed in response 3 ÈÈ. stressful
lifestyles. You can get hooked 4 ÈÈ. practically anything. Addiction starts when passion
cannot be controlled any more.
It is often said that smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol and taking drugs are the most serious
addictions. However, it has been found that there are numerous other things that people
become hooked on these days.
2ÈÈÈÈ..
First of all, it is the modern technology that brings 5 ÈÈ. many types of addictions.
Lots of people are addicted 6 ÈÈ. television and are unable 7 ÈÈ. stop watching certain TV
programmes, soap operas or even buying things through TV shops. More and more people,
especially teenagers are also hooked on the Internet chatting with virtual friends, playing
online games or watching porno sites.
3ÈÈÈÈÈ
Secondly, there is a number of addictions connected with food and dinks. Lots of
people tend to eat chocolate in stressful situations. However, some of them canÓt stop even if
the situation is over. Others are hooked on soft drinks like coca-cola because it contains
caffeine which is highly addictive.
4ÈÈÈÈÈ
Finally, there is an increasing group of people who are not afraid 8 ÈÈ. stress. On the
contrary, they are addicted to adrenalin which is produced in stressful and challenging
situations. They take up extreme sports as a hobby, perform dangerous tricks or, simply,
become workaholics spending long hours in the office, deliberately putting pressure on
themselves.
5ÈÈÈÈÈ
Although a number of people think that there is nothing wrong in watching TV,
drinking Coke, surfing the net or eating chocolate, those addictions are the most difficult
ones to detect and cure. In fact, it is those seemingly harmless addictions that turn our lives
into nightmares. They ruin the victimsÓ finances, family lives, friendships and, what is most
important, health. People addicted to shopping lose all their money in a short time while
those hooked on the Internet resign 9 ÈÈ. their real lives and start virtual existence. In any
case the addicts lose their health by eating junk food, watching TV for hours or performing
dangerous tricks or even die 10 ÈÈ. diseases connected with their addictions.
6ÈÈÈÈÈ.
It is often said that people suffering 11 ÈÈ. addictions are slaves of their weaknesses.
Giving up an addiction is an extremely difficult process. Most often it requires not only
strong will but also professional help from a psychologist. Support from the family and
friends is also very important and it allows the addicts to come back to the real life.
