learnin g of lan guages througho ut their school lif e and is suitable for
docum enting their le arning when th ey are changi ng scho ols,
movin g to an other lev el with a differe nt teach er or wh en you are
movin g to a nother c ountry. In pract ice, por tfolios m ay incl ude
projec t or ot her exa mples o f written langua ge work , compu ter
disket tes (with some w ork or d rawings complet ed insid e or out side
the c lass), v ideo ca ssettes (with th eir favo urite sto ry or w ith
perfo rmances of song s, schoo l plays, etc), au dio cas settes (w ith
songs perform ed by yo ur childr en, etc), certifica tes, repo rts from the
teach ers, or even a collect ion of objects or pictu res. It i s a
collec tion of w hat you r childre n want t o keep as evide nce of w hat
they are learn ing thro ugh the medium of the E nglish la nguage. The
main emphas is is on the pro cess of learning . As a result, w hile
comp iling the ir portfol ios, your children develop the skill s to be a ble
to w ork indep endentl y.
It is a good idea to guide t hem in keeping their wo rk neat and
tidy so that their wo rk is we ll organ ised and will en dure for the
rema inder of their sc hool life. Every ti me some thing ne w is ad ded
to th e dossie r, help t hem to record it .

How to organise your Language Portfolio
You can include in your Language Portfolio almost anything you have
produced or collected that proves your progress in English. We suggest
you keep your work in plastic envelopes so that it remains in good
condition.
In practice, your Language Portfolio can be in any shape or size
according to the material you choose to store.
