First Week of December
Make a shopping list of food and wines for
Christmas
Try and inish your Christmas shopping and
start wrapping presents
Write and post Christmas cards
Unwrap Christmas decorations, check tree
lights, and buy new ones if required
Order Christmas tree, door wreath and garlands
for the ireplace
Order any plants and / or lowers for
decorating the Christmas table
Buy candles for the house and table
Buy wines
Order turkey, ham and any other meats or ish
Buy dry store items for Christmas menus
Buy nuts, chocolates and sweets; store in a cool
dark place
Wash and starch linens for Christmas day, re-
pack in clear plastic and don’t forget to label

Gilded Fruits and Nuts
Gilding or glittering fruits and nuts is one of the easiest and most
pleasurable ways to decorate a table, side tables or mantles.
Always work on a lat surface, use plenty of newspaper or craft paper and don’t forget to ventilate
the room when using spray adhesive. Be careful using glitter, too much can look very garish.
Glittered nuts look wonderful when mixed with natural ones; add some leaves to the arrangement
such as bay.
Supplies
Glue, spray mount, small paintbrush, small bowls, ine grain glitter, newspaper or craft paper, paper
towels, nuts, pine cones. Cooling rack or wire rack
Pine cones and nuts
Hold the pine cone and brush down the outside edges with the glue, roll the cone in the bowl of
glitter until the glue is coated with a thin amount. If you are using very large cones, just apply the
glue to the tips and roll in the glitter
Applying the glitter to nuts
Spray the nuts with glue, roll in the glitter, remove and leave to dry on a cooling rack.
Gilding fruits
In lorist sundries shops you can buy spray cans of gold, silver and copper. This is a very quick way of
achieving festive decorations.
Supplies
Spray cans of paint, bamboo skewers, cooling racks, newspaper. Pears, pomegranates and apples
are the best fruits to gild.
Shake the can well, place the skewer into the lower end of the fruit, spray evenly, place on the
cooling rack to dry. Arrange in piles in bowls
Simple candles
Decorating a table with candles can be as simple as placing candles into glass cylinders and illing
them with fresh cranberries.
Make use of tall candle sticks in a different way by placing a sugared pear on the holder with a bay
leaf to add a touch of green.
Simple table decorations
Using fruits such as pomegranates with their wonderful red skins on footed stands or plates lined
with ir, bay leaves or holly leaves will bring a Christmas table to life with the colours of the season.
