JETSAM & FLOTSAM
Here I am, finally in the limelight and getting to write the Jetsam & Flotsam
opening editorial for a Casket Works. Is it really that big of a deal? Not really,
but over the last decade it has become a quest for me to complete and even
managed to get on my top-ten list of things to do before I die.

Time and time again I would ask Ron, "Please, can I write a Jetsam & Flotsam?"
to which he always replied... "You, sir, are not worthy of the honor as you have
chosen English as your sacrificial language. Further, I will not subject our fans to
your nonsensical babble, filibustering and all-around boring writing."

I know what you are thinking here, no way, Ron would never say that! But sadly,
those very words passed his lips not once, but several times!
So why is he letting me finally write my own Jetsam & Flotsam after all these
years? Why is he finally letting me cross number 8 off that list and bask in the
warm glow that is the Jetsam & Flotsam? Simple really, I have bad news to con-
vey and like the character holding the ticking bomb in the cartoons, he handed
me the task and disappeared so fast he only left a puff of smoke where he once
stood.
At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Anyway, the other story where I
martyred myself and selflessly took on the task to save Ron from the burden was
not really coming together the way I wanted it to. I felt it made me sound all full
of myself.

Bad news? Yes you did see that phrase in the prior paragraph. In a nutshell we
have had to raise the price on almost all models. Call it what you like, price
adjustment, price hike or just plain ugly, it was something we held off from doing
as long as we could. On a small, but brighter note, a large group of models had
no price increase and a few even saw their retail price decrease.

Long story short here, Tin is at a record high and hovering around $20,000 per
ton on the world markets. This price is aggravated even more with the falling US
Dollar, as almost all Tin is imported. When you add to this a serious increase in
our freight and supply costs from fuel surcharges you have one big squeeze.
