Wandering Stars
This temari is inspired by the
"traditional" HHG design that is
usually worked on a combination
10 division.
Sandy applies the design basics
to an 8 Combination division.
This uses 2 colors of pearl cotton
and a standard Uwagake Chidori
stitch.
Mark a mari with an 8 Combination division.
Add additional lines as shown, to form S16 from each pole of the C8
Label the poles as shown. The south pole is pole F. You will need
additional guidelines in a removable or inconspicuous thread, shown
as red dotted lines, to the north and south halves of the ball.
Pole A (North pole):
Start at point 1 with color 1 (pink in the diagrams) and work an 8
pointed figure around the pole. Continue as shown.
The red dots indicate a stitch that needs to be taken between
existing guidelines. All other stitches will be taken on existing
guidelines.
You will need to work a "junction stitch" as you move between
motifs -

Pole B:
Point 2 of this diagram corresponds to point 2 of the previous
diagram.
Continue to work the midline zone as shown. There are no points
in this region that fall between existing lines.

Pole C, D:
Poles C and D are identical.
Point 3 corresponds to point 3 of the previous diagram.
Continue stitching the path, as shown.
Pole E:
Point 4 corresponds to point 4 of the previous diagram on pole
D.
Continue to follow the path, as indicated.
Red dots are for stitches that fall between the existing
guidelines. Inconspicuous guidelines are shown as red dotted
lines.
Pole F (South Pole):
Point 5 corresponds to point 5 of the previous diagram.
Red dots are for the stitches that fall between existing lines.
Follow the path, as marked.
Point 6 is the terminal point of color 1.

Color 2: At point 6, join color 2 and return to the north pole.
Using the previous diagrams as a guide. The view of the south
pole is shown at left.
When you come to a place where the point of color 2 overlaps
the point of color 1, place the color 2 point inside the V formed
by color 1. Eventually, after several rows, you will see a two
colored diamond forming at these points. This can be observed
on the photos on page 1. Points that do not overlap the opposite
color will be a single color.
