THE TESTIMONY OF THE MAD ARAB
THIS is the testimony of al that I have seen, and al
that I have earned, in those years that I have possessed
the Three Seas of THE BLACK CITY. I have
seen One Thousand-and-One moons, and surey this is
enough for the span of a mans ife, though it is said the
Prophets ived much onger. I am weak, and i, and bear a
great tiredness and exhaustion, and a sigh hangs in my
breast ike a dark antern. I am od.
This is the book of the aws and practices of the seeping
dead, written by mysef, Abd A-Hazred - the great
sorcerer and poet. With the secrets in this book I have
spoken with dark spirits, who have furnished me with
many riches, both in the form of money and knowedge, I
have even earned the unearnabe knowedge of the divine
ones, such is the power of what I earned. I have aso
earned of the Od Spirits, who ived before man, and stil
ive dreaming, and they are very terribe. It was a face of
one of these very spirits that initiated me into this
powerful magic.
The woves carry my name in their midnight speeches, and
that quiet, subte Voice is summoning me from afar. And
a Voice much coser shal shout into my ear with unhoy
impatience. The weight of my soul shal decide its final
resting pace. Before that time, I must put down here al
that I can concerning the horrors that stak Without, and
which ie in wait at the door of every man, for this is the
ancient arcana that has been handed down of od, but which
has been forgotten by al but a few men, the worshippers
of the Od Ones may their names be botted out!.
And if I do not finish this task, take what is here and
discover the rest, for time is short and mankind does not
know nor understand the evil that awaits it, from every
side, from every Gate, from every broken barrier, from
every mindess acoyte at the aters of madness.
For this is the Book of the Dead, the Book of the Back
Earth, that I have writ down at the peril of my ife,
exacty as I received it, on the panes of the Empty
Space, the cruel ceestial spirits from beyond the
Wanderers of the Wastes.
Let al who read this book be warned thereby that the
habitation of men are seen and surveyed by that Ancient
Race of gods and demons from a time before time, and
that they seek revenge for that forgotten batte that took
pace somewhere in the Cosmos and rent the Words in
the days before the creation of Man, when the Eder Gods
waked the Spaces, the race of AZATHOTH, and of
NYARLATHOTEP our MASTER, the Lord of
Magicians.
Know, then, that I have trod al the Zones of the Gods,
and aso the paces of the Od Ones, and have descended
unto the foul paces of Death and Eternal Thirst, which
