Bell on a ring and in a ring!
Materials required
No. 20 thread. 27 beads, 2 shuttles, small brass curtain ring measuring ”, large brass ring
(child’s bracelet) measuring 2 ” – 2 ½". Both rings are optional and alternative instructions
are given at the end of the pattern. Also alternative instructions for those who do not want to
use a SCMR and/or an inner ring. The bell can be made with finer thread if not using the rings.

Cl close B bead (in place of picot) +B add bead to picot before joining
Wsh1 working shuttle 1 Wsh2working shuttle 2

Place CR on to Wsh2. Thread beads in groups of 7 (colour A), 5 (colour B) and 9 (colour A) to
Wsh2 before starting. Six further beads are needed to add to picots.
SCMR1: [move B on Wsh2 close to last ds before starting 1 – 1 – 1 –
1 – 1 – 1 – 1 Cl] See fig. 1
Move B next to last ds Place CR in place so that the threads
of Wsh2 lie each side of CR. See fig. 2
Bring the thread from the Wsh2 up in front of the CR, round
the back of the ring on the SCMR ensuring that the two
beads lie close to the centre ring. See fig. 3.
Finish SCMR with 3 ds Cl. See fig. 4
When joining all rings and split rings to the SCMR make sure that the bead is added to the picot
first and that the join is then taken round the CR too. See figs 5 & 6

Ch: 8 T & C to base of first R and use the ends to tie to large ring.
Alternative start when using small curtain ring but no SCMR.
Centre ring of 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 – 1 T & C
Followed by
R1: 3 +B(p to p on centre ring making the join over the ring as shown in figs 5 & 6) 3
Continue as before with first chain.
Alternative start when NOT wishing to use a ring in the centre but still wishing to use the SCMR.
