Vocals Magazine is dedicated to showcasing
the “voicing capability” of all instruments
(primarily the voice). Not only is it committed
to shining the light on established acts, it
also provides a forum for new and upcoming
singers and professional speakers. Actors,
directors, songwriters, lyricists, producers,
politicians, talk/radio show hosts, professional
sports players, coaches, and owners are to
also name a few. Moreover, it is an avenue to
discover artists who voice their ideas through
their respective instruments, to include guitar
voicing, piano, drumming, etc.

C alifornia girl, Rachael Lawrence
was born and raised in beautiful San
Diego. Trained in music at the age
of three, her parents enrolled her in
piano lessons as soon as they
discovered she had “perfect pitch.”
These early piano lessons became
the building blocks of her success
in the entertainment industry. She
was trained in the “Suzuki Method”
until she was six years old, and then
began her classical sight reading
training. At the age of nine, Rachael
was cast in a high school musical
and from that point on she knew
she wanted to be in the spotlight as
an actress. She attended La Jolla
Country Day School and became
extremely involved in theatre,
piano, singing, and composing.

By her high school graduation, Rachael had
composed many songs, studied jazz piano, and had
already starred in countless plays and musicals. She
quickly moved on to continue her studies in the arts at
the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
Due to her experience with high school musicals and
plays, Rachael majored in theatre and was involved
in every aspect of music she could get her hands on.
Her world became a swirl of plays, musicals, musical
reviews, and short comedic and dramatic ilms. In
fact, Rachael became the irst undergraduate to ever
direct a main-stage musical at the esteemed university,
and was ultimately celebrated with an award upon
graduation for her onstage and offstage contributions
to the School of Theatre at USC.
Dozens of shorts, music videos, songs, and movies
were produced with Drama 3/4 Productions. Little
did they know that their big break was just around
the corner. VH1 had seen the comedic group-- with
Rachael in tow, and had fallen in love with their
humor. The network offered them the opportunity
to make a television show. On air now, it is the only
scripted comedy on VH1. “I Hate My 30s” was born
from the minds of the group, produced by Drama 3/4
Productions, and Rachael is currently cast as Vicki,
the 25-year-old, 80s rock, loud-mouthed receptionist.
As the youngest cast member on the show, Rachael’s
spunk and talent brings the show to a whole new
level. Her musical expertise has provided her with
the opportunity to co-write most of the songs that are
performed on the show.
During her last semesters of college, Rachael b gan
giving private voice lessons. This led to her becoming
a certiied voice coach under the world famous voice
coach, Seth Riggs. In the past, Rachael has worked
with Bai Ling, Rick Fox (LA Lakers), Sarah Rue (Less
Than Perfect) among many other notable celebrities
and individuals currently starring in Broadway shows
and tours.
A side project that Rachael is largely recognized
for doing is the comedic internet music video “Shoes”
by Liam Sullivan as “Kelly.” The video has gone viral
on MySpace and YouTube, spawning numerous fan
remakes and turning Kelly into an internet rock star
sensation. In 2006, YouTube staffers chose Liam’s
“Shoes” as one of the top 10 videos of the year and
Entertainment Weekly listed it as one of the viral
videos to watch. One of the re-postings of “Shoes”
video has received over 18 million views on YouTube
alone, and is the seventh most viewed video of all time
on the site.
At this same time, Rachael was contacted by USC
and offered a fantastic opportunity to work in Scotland.
She eagerly accepted, which led to her musically
directing and starring in many plays at the Edinburgh
Fringe Festival. Upon returning to Los Angeles, she
immediately began to work as a voice coach, musical
director, composer, and actress. Rachael also became
a regular singer at the prominent venue, Hollywood
Bowl, during their summer programs-- holding her
own performing next to Broadway notables such as:
Patti Lupone, Jonathan Pryce, Rebecca Luker, and
Davis Gaines.
Most recently on top of the new TV show, Rachael
has also paired up with Deborah Ellen, with whom
she wrote and sold four songs to ABC. Along came
Josh Binder, a talented producer who was looking for
writing partners. The trio came together and soon
became a smash hit, creating songs that are soon to be
in demand. In fact, they quickly landed a publishing
deal with Randy Cohen and Dana Kasha’s company,
“Shoot and Score Music Publishing,” under Universal
Publishing.
Rachael’s closest friends from USC are all working
actors in Los Angeles. They all worked together to
create a blend of comedic genius. Consistent positive
feedback led them to perform sketch comedy under
the name “Another Showcase Showdown.” Hard work
paid off and in 2002, they were accepted into the
Aspen HBO Comedy Arts Festival. This eventually
directed a couple of the friends to form their own
production company: Drama 3/4 Productions. Soon
after that, the company became a “clubhouse” for
everyone to produce their projects...
Clearly, Rachael is in it to win it. She is far beyond
a triple threat between her composing, singing, acting,
directing, and coaching. Since Rachael is gifted at
so many areas in the arts, her ultimate goal is to see
her career lourish in many different arenas in the
entertainment world. Rachael’s drive and ambition
makes her a rare ind in Hollywood - and she is sure
to succeed with every path she chooses to take. Her
heart belongs to the arts, and it is sure to win over
anyone who comes within touch of her matchless
talents.
