There are a number of reasons why a movie won't play: ===================================================== 1) There is audio but no picture. You are not using the right video codec. Get the latest from www.free-codecs.com 2) There is picture but no audio. You are not using the correct audio codec. Get the latest from www.free-codecs.com 3) File won't play. You are possibly using a bad media player. Download the best multi-platform media player 'KMPlayer' at www.kmplayer.com/forums/index.php or 'VLC" at www.videolan.org 4) For some reason your computer wont play a particular codec. Convert the file using the free Super Converter from www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html 5) You get two audio tracks at the same time, or you hear a foreign soundtrack when you want to hear English. Select the correct audio channel. This is easier when using VLC. It is not easy to get it to work on WMP. 6) Video refuses to play with funny errors. this is possibly because the filename and path is too long. Rename the file to something simpler, or move the file into a simpler directory e.g. c:\movies 7) I recommend you to use KM Player found at www.kmplayer.com/forums/index.php or 'VLC" at www.videolan.org SUBTITLES ========= Subtitle files can be compressed effectively in a Winrar archive, which is used to save space and downloading time. If you want to use them, you right-click the archive you want and choose "Extract here" from the Winrar menu, then copy and paste the two files into the same folder as the film. DO NOT delete the rar archive, or you will not be able to seed the torrent. (If this does not work on your computer, then start Winrar manually and unpack the archive you want into the same folder as the film. If you don't have Winrar installed, then see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WinRAR or download from http://thepiratebay.org/tor/4029437/WINRAR and install. Subtitles are provided in several formats. Here, it is the idx/sub version with two files. THEY MUST HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME FILE NAME AS THE FILM (the dot-avi file) TO WORK. Do not change either, or you will have to change them all. THEY MUST ALSO BE FOUND IN THE SAME FOLDER as the film. Unpack ('unrar') the set you want, and move or copy/paste the two small files into the same folder as the film. These subtitle files will work with Windows Media Player and most other players. They can also be used in the newest standalone DivX players if burned to a data disc with the film, or copied to a USB memory stick. You'll have to choose them with the Subtitle button on your remote, as with a DVD. You probably know that you can burn several (5-6) avi files to a data DVD. Your DivX player accepts DVDs and CDs just like your computer. The idx/sub files must be found on the same disc to work, preferably in a folder with the avi file if your player can handle folders. These subtitle files can also be used by most conversion programs (for example ConvertX to DVD) if you want to convert the dot-avi file to a DVD. In some programs you have to choose this option manually, see instructions for your conversion program. Often, you may also choose whether to have your subtitles burned into the picture, or embedded to be activated with the remote control for your player. November, 2008.
