Release Notes for Norton Utilities 2002
---------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for purchasing Norton Utilities 2002 for Windows
98/Millennium/NT/2000/XP Home Edition and Professional.

Please review this document before you install Norton Utilities
2002 or call technical support, as it contains information not
contained in the User's Guide and the online help.

This version of Norton Utilities does not support Windows 95.
In addition neither Windows NT, Windows 2000 nor Windows XP
server editions, are supported by this release.

---------------------------------------------------------------

GENERAL INFORMATION
===================

UPGRADING FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION OF WINDOWS TO WINDOWS XP
----------------------------------------------------------
If you have upgraded your operating system to Windows XP and your
previous operating system had Norton Utilities 2001 or below
installed, you must uninstall and then reinstall Norton
Utilities.

Previous versions of Norton Utilities are not compatible with
Windows XP.

Norton Utilities does not support operating systems that are
upgraded from Windows 98/Me to Windows NT/2000/XP without
having uninstalled Norton Utilities prior to the operating
system upgrade.

64 KB CLUSTERS ON FAT16 FILE SYSTEMS
------------------------------------
64 KB clusters are not supported on FAT16 file systems by any of
the DOS utilities.

NORTON DISK DOCTOR PARTITION REBUILDING
---------------------------------------
The Norton Disk Doctor partition rebuilding feature (available by
running the
NDD /REBUILD command from DOS) should be used only as a last
resort. Every attempt is made to rebuild the Master Boot Record
(MBR) entries correctly, but any number of factors could cause
errant partitions to be recovered or created.

"DRIVE NOT CONFIGURED" ERROR
----------------------------
If Speed Disk or Norton Disk Doctor report that your hard drive
is not configured, launch the program from the Start > Run...
dialog box in the following manner:
For Speed Disk:
	SD32 /NOLBA
For Norton Disk Doctor:
	NDD32 /NOLBA
This issue will only arise on Windows 98 or Windows
Millennium systems.

USING NORTON DISK DOCTOR OR SPEED DISK WITH GOBACK
--------------------------------------------------
GoBack will track all file moves that are made by Speed Disk as
it optimizes your drive(s). Since there is only a limited amount
of recording performed by GoBack it will start to over-write
older entries in its change log before Speed Disk completes. This
will invalidate the history that GoBack has accumulated. It is
recommended that you flush the GoBack history after running
Speed Disk and take a new snapshot of the system so GoBack has
a current image of the drive(s).

NORTON DISK DOCTOR AND NON-STANDARD SECTOR SIZES
------------------------------------------------
Norton Disk Doctor does not support drives with non-standard
sector sizes (ie drives with sector sizes larger than 512 bytes)
when performing its partition table checks.

This includes certain magneto-optical drives. If a drive has a
sector size larger than 512 bytes NDD will post an erroneous
warning about CMOS settings. This warning is incorrect and can
be dismissed. Norton Disk Doctor will run correctly from this
point on.

EMERGENCY DISKS
---------------
It is strongly recommended that emergency disks be created and
tested after installing Norton Utilities. This will enable you
to verify that the disks will be usable in the event that they
are required to fix any problems that may occur in the future.

WINDOWS XP-SPECIFIC ISSUES
==========================
Please be aware that switching users, without logging out, and
repairing problems in one WinDoctor session may result in an
error or the appearance of nothing taking place if the original
user was running WinDoctor and attempts to repair the same
(now fixed) error. A warning will also appear from UnErase
Wizard if you attempt to recover a file that has already been
recovered in another session.
