WRITING – MODEL ANSWERS

3a   A blog or diary entry

I had a fantastic time last weekend as I spent three days in Prague. I’d never been there before so I was really looking forward to it. Everyone had told me how beautiful it is there. I flew over there on my own but met up with a group of friends I’ve known for ages.

And the reason? An English-Czech wedding. Mark and Elena were getting married.  They’d chosen an old summer palace for the reception. There were about fifty guests and all the speeches were in English and Czech. After a delicious meal there was dancing until midnight.

I’m so glad I was there as it was a very happy occasion and it was a great opportunity for me to catch up with friends I hadn’t seen for a long time.

3b   A competition entry

Anna had no idea what she would find when she opened the door. She had never been to that part of town before, and she was feeling quite nervous as she took the key out of her pocket and slowly put it into the rusty old lock. It was clear that nobody had lived in that house for a long time. The windows were cracked and dirty and the garden was very overgrown.

With a beating heart, she turned the key and pushed open the door. It took a while for her eyes to adapt to the darkness inside but slowly she began to make out various shapes. Imagine her surprise. The walls were covered with the most beautiful paintings she had ever seen. Everyone had told her that her grandfather was a good artist but she would never have expected this.

Anna had inherited the house after her grandfather’s death and now all these masterpieces were hers.
