Dear Parents,
Weis Markets is proud to offer your child a fun way to learn about the importance of eating a variety of fruits
and vegetables.
Colorful fruits and vegetables contain many of the vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals the body needs to
maintain good health and energy. They can also help reduce the risk of certain types of cancer and chronic
diseases, including heart disease and stroke. Many of the phytochemicals and other compounds that make
fruits and vegetables so healthy also give them their vibrant color. Within each color group, individual fruits and
vegetables have their own unique beneits so eat a variety throughout the week.
Research shows that children’s eating behaviors start to develop early on and that parents’ behaviors and the
home environment inluence the formation of lifelong healthy eating habits. Set a goal as a family to eat from
each color group daily. Get everyone involved and make it a fun family activity.
