The road network
The public road network is divided into three weight classes,
Class One (BK 1), Class Two (BK 2) and Class Three (BK 3)
The highest vehicle weights are permitted on the BK1 road
network, and correspond with the weights permitted according
to EC directives.
The weight regulations for BK1 apply on some 90% of the
public road network. Within built-up areas there is generally a
lower proportion of BK1 roads. As far as the remaining road
network is concerned, BK2 or BK 3 (8 tons single axle load, 12
tons tandem axle load and maximum gross weight according to
a table not re-printed in this folder) apply.
Bearing capacity maps
Every year we publish road information maps to help you
distinguish the bearing capacity on different parts of the road
network. Apart from the bearing capacity, details are provided on
the location of low tunnel portals and other obstacles that can
limit accessibility as well as other information of primarily
concern to heavy vehicles.
There is a general map of Sweden, showing the major roads in
the country, as well as 24 individual county maps, showing all
public roads in each county as well as major streets in built-up
areas.
Please refer to page 19 for details on where you can order the
maps and obtain further road-related information.

On a motor vehicle, provided that the drive shaft is fitted with
twin tyres and
a) air suspension or suspension recognised as being equivalent
or
b) the axle load on any drive shaft does not exceed 9.5 tons.

If the distance is less than 100 cm, the maximum weight must
not exceed 11 tons.
Maximum tri-axle load
Tri-axle refers to a vehicle with three axles where there is less
than 5.0 metres between the first and third axle.

Laden weight limit
This regulation is not to be applied to vehicles or combined
vehicles in international traffic, as long as the vehicle or the
combined vehicle does not exceed the limits laid down in
Directive 96/53/EC

The laden weight limit of a vehicle or combined vehicles
depends on the maximum permitted vehicle weight and also on
the distance between the foremost and the rearmost axles.
The distance between axles can normally be found in the
vehicle´s registration certificate. The gross weights permitted
are given in the weight limit tables for BK1 and BK2.
Even if A + B is greater than C,
C is the weight that applies.
