Dear colleagues ,
I would like to tell you about our two-year experience in the use
of chosen KT applications in patients at the rehabilitation
department of the Hospital in Zgorzelec. We have 60 beds in
our department, 40 of them for adults and the remaining 20 for
children. In our department the treatment of children with ICP
and other developmental defects of CNS lasts 28 days on
average. Children are accompanied by their guardians, who
learn from us the process of treatment, i.e. the application of
physiotherapy and – in the recent period – also KT.
Among adult patients there are those with the effects of cerebral
strokes and those with back pain. The back pain patients were
divided into those before and after surgery. Both groups are
treated in the same way. There are also groups of patients who
have SM, polyarthritis and different injuries resulting from a
variety of causes.

Infantum Cerebral Palsy
ICP is a complex of varied symptoms, e.g.
disorders of motive actions and tension of
muscles which are connected with the
damage in the brain or developmental
disturbances before a birth. The factors
which cause ICP are known well. These
factors include: anoxaemia, poisoning and
miscarriages. ICP requires systematic
treatment. The inefficiency of a therapeutic
method caused the development of other
methods e.g. Vojta, Bobath, Doman, Peto,
Sherbourne or Cranio - Sacral therapy.ICP
is often accompanied by spastic tension of
muscles and this provokes many
unfavourable functional results. Therefore,
methods which would reduce this intense
tension effectively have been sought for
many years.

Next slide presents a 2 years old child during exercise. Although there
are normally seven tests I show only two of them: the traction test
and the reaction to side suspension test by Collis. We can observe
that the child is not able to hold his head up during the traction test.
The child creates hyperkifosis. He also does not hold up the head
while the return movement. The side suspension test tries to
evaluate the reactions of upper and lower limbs and the head to lifting
the body.
After the KT application in the traction test the child holds his head
better and during return movement the head does not require any
support. In the second test after KT application there is less spastic
tension in the forearms and along spinal muscles.
