Shoulder Bag Pattern for Jane's Floral Fantasy
Pattern is 1/5 of actual size. 1/2" seam allowance. Enlarge 500% on copier.
Inside Pocket: Cut 1
fabric, 1 contrasting fabric,
1 interfacing.
(Enlarges to 5-1/2" by 6-1/2")
Shoulder Bag:
Enlarge the patterns to actual size. Cut iron-on interfacing for the
bottom and two sides of the bag. Place these interfacing pieces on
the back side of your fabric, making sure the fabric design is centered,
fuse. Cut the fabric along the edges of your interfacing.
Bottom: Cut on seam.
1 fabric, 1 lining, 1 interface.

Embellish the outer fabric of the bag at this point. I used seed beads
and bugle beads to adorn the edges of the lily motif. With right bag
sides together, sew along the outer edges from dot to dot. Pin
bottom to bag with right sides together, aligning the side seams with
the dots on the rounded edge of the bottom. Sew.
Prepare Pocket: Cut interfacing to pocket size and fuse it to the back
of one of your fabric pocket pieces. Cut another pocket piece in a
contrasting fabric. With right sides together, sew the two pocket
pieces along three sides. Clip the extra corner fabric away. Turn the
pocket inside out. Fold raw edge in 1/2 inch, press and topstitch the
pocket closed.
Prepare lining: Cut fabric for your contrasting lining, 2 sides and one
bottom. Place the pocket, as shown, with the topstitched edge on
top. Pin. Topstitch the remaining three sides. You may want to use
iron-on interfacing to strengthen the pocket side of your lining, too.
With right lining sides together, sew along the outer edges from top
dot toward the bottom dot, but this time leaving a 5" opening on
one side for turning the bag inside out. Pin bottom to bag with right
sides together, aligning the side seams with the dots on the rounded
edge of the bottom. Sew.
Sew lining and bag together: With right sides together, pin the
lining to the front along the upper curve. Sew along the top of one
strap and rounded edge, keeping the other strap open. Clip curved
seams. Turn the bag inside out. Press. Turn unsewn edges of strap
under and slip stitch together. Slipstitch the lining seam to close.
Bag: Cut 2 fabric, 2 lining, 2 interface.
(Enlarges to 15" at base, 28" from strap to base.)
Scarf:
For the scarf I simply used an 8" X 65" piece of the Red Lily & Crocus
and the same sized lining in red/magenta from FreeSpirits Color
Connector series. With right sides together, sew around the sides
leaving an opening for turning the scarf inside out. Turn out scarf
and slip stitch the opening. Fringe can be added either before or
after the edges have been sewn.
