Not since home computing was truly put on the map with the launch
of Windows 95 has Microsoft delivered such a radical overhaul to its
world-conquering operating system.

Microsoft has pushed the desktop to the background
in Windows 8, introducing a new Start screen designed
to be used across PCs, laptops and tablets. his full-
screen interface is built around large, bright tiles which
serve as gateways to your applications and folders.
Some are even alive with information, dynamically
updating themselves with the latest news headlines,
weather information and notiications from your email
accounts. he radically redesigned Start screen has
its own settings menus, search options and even
a new toolbar, dubbed the Charms bar. We cover them

Windows 8 may have seen the traditional Windows
desktop relegated in favour of the sparkling new
Modern Start screen, but rest assured: it remains a
pivotal part of the operating system – especially for
those still using traditional desktop computers or
laptops without a touchscreen. And Microsoft hasn’t
neglected the desktop in this latest refresh, either:
