HOW TO FLASH THE VU+ DUO USING A USB STICK
CREATED FOR THE SatStation.co.uk FORUM
Items required:
USB Stick Formated to FAT32 – Use HP Format Tool for formatting if you have any problems
with the USB not being seen by the VU+ DUO after formatting using Windows. HP Tool is
available from www.SatStation.co.uk in the downloads section
Your chosen USB image file – Various ones available from www.SatStation.co.uk in the
downloads section
VU+ DUO Receiver – This guide is good for the VU+ DUO
First extract the downloaded image files to temp folder (often easy to do this to a folder
on your Desktop for easy access, but anywhere will work). You should find three files in
the .zip or .rar file.you have downloaded from the forum.
1) root_cfe_auto.jffs2
2) kernel_cfe_auto.bin
3) boot_cfe_auto.jffs2
You need to create the folder /vuplus/duo on the pre-formatted USB stick and copy the
above 3 files to it. (Make vuplus folder first and then make the subfolder duo)
Now USB memory stick has following 3 files at /vuplus/duo folder.
1) /vuplus/duo/root_cfe_auto.jffs2
2) /vuplus/duo/kernel_cfe_auto.bin
3) /vuplus/duo/boot_cfe_auto.jffs2
You may find in some cases the image creators have been nice to you and pre-created the
/vuplus/duo directory structure in the image files you have downloaded. In this case you
don’t need to re-create the /vuplus/duo directory you can just extract the whole thing from
the .zip or .rar file straight onto the FAT32 formatted USB stick.

With the mains power turned off on the VU+ DUO insert USB stick into the front USB port
and then Power on the VU+ receiver.
After being powered on the VU+ DUO will automatically start the flashing process using the
files on the USB memory stick. You can see the progress at the front VFD display.
After flashing is finished the VFD will say "Finished ...please remove USB and reboot"
Be sure to remove the USB stick at this point and then power Off/On the VU+ DUO,
allowing a few seconds delay between turning off then back on.
Once the receiver starts up you should now be presented with the new images startup
screen followed by the first time setup screen.
